My New Year Gift to you...

Friends.
It's time to plan out what it is you really want to accomplish in 2018.
Set a New Year's goal with a specific date attached to it. Ask yourself "How much, by when?" and be sure your goal is specific, measurable, actionable, and has a deadline attached to it.
And when it comes to setting and achieving goals, remember this: when you start taking concrete steps toward your targets you will gain more traction and go much further, much faster. It's okay to start small — just make sure to take it one step at a time and do not give up. Before you know it, you'll be celebrating the successful completion of your most ambitious goals!
Need help? Need guide which will help you stay on track every step of the way?
Just message me at shyam.iyer@60bitsconsulting.com and i will be happy to share with you some tips, techniques which has worked for me and would work for you too!
I'll leave you with this quote today:

"The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals."
— Melody Beattie
To your best year ever,
Cheers,
Shyam

The Secret revealed...

“You have to dream before your dreams can become true”
-          Abdul Kalam

As a famous Indian poet remarked, dreams are the foundations for achieving the impossible.

The Wright brothers dreamed of flying when they saw birds soaring in the sky; scientists dreamed of the radio when they realised the power of echo.

Steve Jobs dreamed of putting an Apple computer in every home. He created the huge success of iPod by dreaming of music downloads that are legal.

Without dreams, there is no progress. Dream about what you want to do.

Did you know “Fears kills more dreams than Failures

If want to achieve success over your fear and live a life of your dreams do attend the 13th and 14th Jan 2018 workshop wherein you would be learning mind tools and techniques to break away your dis-empowering beliefs and fears.

You would be receiving a 30 day success conditioning program and many more tools to keep you unstoppable!

Is stress stopping you from achieving your goals?

Have you experienced a decrease in energy, frequent headaches, aches, body pains and tense muscles?
These are all symptoms of a very familiar condition...
And I'm not talking about the flu or the common cold...
I'm talking about stress.
In a recent survey it showed that a whopping 78% of Indians surveyed reported at least one symptom of stress. In addition to being unpleasant, too much stress can also have some real consequences on your well-being.
Stress is responsible for health problems such as anxiety, depression, digestive issues, heart problems, weight gain, and more.
In order to live a happy life while still doing what it takes to pursue your goals, it is essential to uncover the cause of this worry and learn how to deal with stress.
What may be surprising is that often, it is our own ego that causes us the most anxiety.
How to Deal With Your Ego
When something bad happens, your ego governs your response.
If a person is caught up in their own ego, negative situations can feel especially hurtful, leading to a negative attitude, stress, and worry.
For example, picture a person who thinks that everything has to go exactly according to their plan, or a person who believes that every situation is centered around them. When things go off the rails — which is almost inevitable at some point — it is more difficult for egotistical people to accept this deviation from the plan they expected.
Instead of letting your ego cause you to perceive every negative situation you encounter as a personal assault and cause you high levels of stress, it's important to step back and realize that sometimes bad things happen, and it's how you deal with them that makes all the difference.
To do this, remember the formula E + R = O.
This stands for events, plus your response to those events, equals the outcome. It's not what happens to you, but rather what you tell yourself about it that controls how you feel and what you experience.
This week, I want to you to think about something in your life that may be causing you anxiety. Then step back and look at all the ways that this situation could turn out just fine. Take a deep breath, relax, and try to adopt a positive state of mind.
The truth is that we never know how situations are going to turn out in the end. Sometimes very positive things yield negative outcomes and sometimes negative things yield positive outcomes. There's just no way to know, so there's no need to worry.
If you can start viewing the negative things you are dealing with through this lens, they will have much less impact on your life.
To learn more about how dealing with your ego can help you lead a successful and prosperous life and to put it into action you should attend our 5th batch on Awaken the Genie Within you workshop happening on 13th & 14th Jan 2018 at Hotel Mirage, Andheri.
To know more details call 9223268309 or shyam.iyer@60bitsconsulting.com
For now, I'll leave you with this quote:
"Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy. There's going to be stress in life, but it's your choice whether you let it affect you or not."

The Open Organization...

Friends,

Every leader talks of wanting an open organisation. But its tough having employees question every decision you make.

As a leader, it challenges your ego - it is not fun to have people question, question and question every decision you make. So why do it?

The simple answer is because it leads to better decisions, better engagement, better execution and ultimately better results.

The million dollar question is how to have a healthy conversation by keeping aside the ego where both sides are heard and its not arguement?

How can leaders proactively invite feedback and thank those who give you constructive or negative feedback? As a leader if you react defensively, you are unlikely to get it again.

As a leader how can you spark the organisation to action?

The answer is finding the right balance using Facilitation. When decisions are handed down from above, a lack of commitment and follow through often result. That's why using facilitation skills you can co create the shared understanding and strive for change management to happen during the decision process not during execution. The focus is bringing on ownership in the changes needed by involving people in the decision making process.

To know more about how to use Facilitative processes to be a leader who can empower teams, engage people and exceed goals attend our signature workshop LEAF on 23rd and 24th Feb 2018 at Mumbai. Asking the right questions...using a #facilitative process...

Friends,

We were recently invited by a MNC for a Change Management intervention and as part of the diagnosis with the stakeholders during FGD we used the following questions in a facilitative process:
·
  •     When you reflect on your experiences in your company, what in your judgment are the main changes that have happened here which most deeply affected people’s work life and home life?
  •       In general, do you feel hopeful or despondent about all these changes?
  •      From what you can see when you observe people at work, what kinds of folks tend to do best during a period of rapid change? What kinds of folks do poorly?
  •    Things in this world will always keep changing. What’s the best way you have found to introduce a change so that it doesn’t devastate the people who work for you?

These questions opened up so much data and helped us arrive at the problem statement and design the intervention successfully.

The facilitative processes that we used were ORID, Focussed Conversation Method with few more processes.

If you want to learn more about the processes kindly register for our upcoming workshop LEAF on 25th and 26th Nov 2017 at Courtyard Mariott, Mumbai. For more details kindly see the below advertisement and connect with me at 9223268309 or email at shyam.iyer@60bitsconsulting.com

Opening Discussion for "#Coaching" session

Friends,

I was facilitating a session for the Managers to become a Coach for their team to develop people for superior performance. This was part of two days workshop on Good to Great Managerial Effectiveness workshop.

After the Check in process the opening for “Coaching” discussion was used in the below way:

Please say “hello” to the other team members of your team. Then take ten minutes to discuss the following questions, taking some notes as you speak to each other. Elect a spokesperson who can report back to the rest of the class the gist of your discussion:

1.   How often do you find yourself coaching one of your team members? What kinds of skills do you coach them in?
2.    How do you determine when you should invest your time into coaching a team member, rather than sending them to a formal course or some other kind of training intervention?
3.      What’s your experience so far in coaching people? Give me some typical scenarios of work situations where good coaching skills would really help you to do your job better.

The above points from the group helped the session to be effective and was lead in a facilitative way using the frame game process at the beginning.

If you want to learn Frame game process and much more as Being a Facilitator kindly attend the upcoming workshop below.

Reasons why people don't perform

Friends,

There are all kinds of reasons why people don’t perform the way we want them to and finding out which ones apply in a given situation makes all the difference in how we choose to get them to change.

Here are the major ones which I have experienced
1.      People don’t know how
2.      They really don’t care
3.      They get punished if they do
4.      They get frustrated
5.      They don’t grasp the consequences
6.      They don’t believe their performance makes a difference
7.      They are unaware their performance is off target
8.      Their performance has grown obsolete

If you want to learn how to become a Facilitative Coach kindly attend the upcoming workshop below.

Teamship...

A successful organization may be described as a ‘team of teams’. The success of any organization depends on the success of each team and the team’s ability to co-operate and support each other. Team building culture exists in a company when every person in every team:
·       - Is capable (has the necessary competencies and knowledge)
·       - Is willing to cooperate and give his best as a person and as a team member
·       - Is free to take responsibilities and initiative
We all know what the team is......It’s a group of individuals brought together, work together for the purpose of reaching a common goal. How incredible easy.....right... but building a great team that works together and achieves peak performance consistently can be a difficult task. Handling conflicting personalities, keeping everyone motivated, help them succeed individually and achieving the specific goals..... Is an ART.

Objective:  The session enabled the participants to:
·       Learn stages of team formation in a fun and experiential way through card game

·   Develop and maintain ‘Teamship’ and create winning teams’ – rather than just working groups

#Frame game process... what's your frame?

How to become Facilitative HR in an organisation...

Friends,

Facilitation skills are critical for successfully solving the people as well as business issues. The impact of effective facilitation on resolution of complex people & Business related issues is immense.
Hence, as a part of preparing for future, HR has to develop these skills for effective implementation of people processes across the company. The importance of professional facilitation is felt in multiple applications like Strategy sessions, Employee Engagement Action Planning Sessions, Performance Management Workshops, Small Group departmental Meetings, Creative Problem Solving meetings, Inductions, Open house, Brainstorming, Review meetings, Conflict resolutions between teams, Ideation / Innovation, Managing Union Negotiations, Trainings, Discussions etc.

If you want to learn and make your sessions impactful by conceptualizing and executing well designed facilitation processes you should be registering for the below two days workshop.

How to Facilitate with ease...

Friends,

The role of the HR Leader has undergone a tremendous change in the last few years. On one hand is the growing importance of understanding business and being aligned with it. On the other is the increasing importance of being the driver of culture and a person who enables common thinking and commitment / ownership across the organization especially when changes happen.

To do this, the HR person needs to be able to influence managers across levels in the organization and be able to intervene appropriately in various situations to enable shared commitment and alignment to a common goal / purpose. The outcome of doing this is high performance of the organization and enhanced engagement of people.

The skill to be able to get collective engagement and alignment is what Facilitation is all about. Being facilitative is a different way of interacting with co-workers and viewing a task. According to Webster’s dictionary, “Facilitate”, from the root word “facile”, is to “make easy or easier”. It means functioning with a mindset of serving others, allowing the group and the situation to “be in control”.

As an HR leader, this emphasis on people skills is powerful. Instead of having to “know”, you need to build the capacity for more people to “be in the know”

If you are interested to learn more about the "how" part and get ease with Facilitating then you should be attending the upcoming event on 25th & 26th Nov 2017 at Courtyard Mariott, Mumbai.

The program facilitates learning experientially – creating understanding of each tool and technique by experiencing it in a demonstration; practicing it within the group on relevant topics to build the confidence to deploy the tool / technique; action planning to deploy the learning.

More details check out the below

Program Delivery Design

The program facilitates learning experientially – creating understanding of each tool and technique by experiencing it in a demonstration; practicing it within the group on relevant topics to build the confidence to deploy the tool / technique; action planning to deploy the learning.

Who is this Program relevant for?

This workshop will be useful for those HR Managers / leaders as well as those managers / leaders who lead teams of managers and need to get the best out of them or those who need to get ownership of teams / leaders for action. Also those who believe that they would be able to put into practice the learning post a workshop. Accordingly, the program would be suitable for the following:
·       Line Managers – those who lead teams of Managers (typically dept / function heads)
·       HR Heads
·       OD Heads
·       L&D Heads
Trainers
