Asking the right questions...using a #facilitative process...

We were recently invited by a MNC for a Change Management intervention and as part of the diagnosis with the stakeholders during FGD we used the following questions in a facilitative process:
  •     When you reflect on your experiences in your company, what in your judgment are the main changes that have happened here which most deeply affected people’s work life and home life?
  •       In general, do you feel hopeful or despondent about all these changes?
  •      From what you can see when you observe people at work, what kinds of folks tend to do best during a period of rapid change? What kinds of folks do poorly?
  •    Things in this world will always keep changing. What’s the best way you have found to introduce a change so that it doesn’t devastate the people who work for you?

These questions opened up so much data and helped us arrive at the problem statement and design the intervention successfully.

The facilitative processes that we used were ORID, Focussed Conversation Method with few more processes.

If you want to learn more about the processes kindly register for our upcoming workshop LEAF on 25th and 26th Nov 2017 at Courtyard Mariott, Mumbai. For more details kindly see the below advertisement and connect with me at 9223268309 or email at

Opening Discussion for "#Coaching" session

I was facilitating a session for the Managers to become a Coach for their team to develop people for superior performance. This was part of two days workshop on Good to Great Managerial Effectiveness workshop.

After the Check in process the opening for “Coaching” discussion was used in the below way:

Please say “hello” to the other team members of your team. Then take ten minutes to discuss the following questions, taking some notes as you speak to each other. Elect a spokesperson who can report back to the rest of the class the gist of your discussion:

1.   How often do you find yourself coaching one of your team members? What kinds of skills do you coach them in?
2.    How do you determine when you should invest your time into coaching a team member, rather than sending them to a formal course or some other kind of training intervention?
3.      What’s your experience so far in coaching people? Give me some typical scenarios of work situations where good coaching skills would really help you to do your job better.

The above points from the group helped the session to be effective and was lead in a facilitative way using the frame game process at the beginning.

Reasons why people don't perform

There are all kinds of reasons why people don’t perform the way we want them to and finding out which ones apply in a given situation makes all the difference in how we choose to get them to change.

Here are the major ones which I have experienced
1.      People don’t know how
2.      They really don’t care
3.      They get punished if they do
4.      They get frustrated
5.      They don’t grasp the consequences
6.      They don’t believe their performance makes a difference
7.      They are unaware their performance is off target
8.      Their performance has grown obsolete

If you want to learn how to become a Facilitative Coach kindly attend the upcoming workshop below.

A successful organization may be described as a ‘team of teams’. The success of any organization depends on the success of each team and the team’s ability to co-operate and support each other. Team building culture exists in a company when every person in every team:
·       - Is capable (has the necessary competencies and knowledge)
·       - Is willing to cooperate and give his best as a person and as a team member
·       - Is free to take responsibilities and initiative
We all know what the team is......It’s a group of individuals brought together, work together for the purpose of reaching a common goal. How incredible easy.....right... but building a great team that works together and achieves peak performance consistently can be a difficult task. Handling conflicting personalities, keeping everyone motivated, help them succeed individually and achieving the specific goals..... Is an ART.

Objective:  The session enabled the participants to:
·       Learn stages of team formation in a fun and experiential way through card game

·   Develop and maintain ‘Teamship’ and create winning teams’ – rather than just working groups
